| NBC's Stand-Up for Diversity College Tour
In its fourth consecutive year, NBC is proud to present another groundbreaking year of Stand-Up for
Diversity. Through this initiative comedians of diverse backgrounds have been launched to new career
milestones. Each year NBC selects 3-5 cities across the country and holds both auditions and live
showcases of the top diverse talent from that area. At the end of the search a handful of comedians are
brought back to Los Angeles to showcase for key industry players at NBC and industry-wide. Many of the
comics from last year's Best of Stand-Up for Diversity showcase signed with top Hollywood agents and met
with the entertainment industry's leading casting directors and executives. Three of the performers were
among the 20 comics selected to participate in the prestigious Aspen U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.
Additionally, two of the three comics were sent by NBC to the NACA (National Association of Campus
Activities) National Convention where they booked a record number of nearly 60 college appearances
between them for the coming year and one lucky comic was signed to a talent holding deal with NBC
Universal. Due to the success and broad appeal of this initiative, NBC Universal is currently launching
a Stand-Up for Diversity nationwide college tour for 2008.
ANTI BULLYING SPEAKER. At the age of 15 Kevin Yee signed his first recording contract in a formulaic 90’s boy band. He spent three years in boy-band hell submerged in the homophobic and image based music industry. In his funny one-hour speaker session, he shares how he struggled, survived, and eventually moved on; A story he also tells in the IT GETS BETTER book by Dan Savage.
Kevin Yee is a pop-comedy singer who performs a unique collection of sassy songs about random stuff. A gay performer and advocate for LGBTQ rights, he strives to create work that makes people laugh, dance, and think. He began his music career at the age of 15 when he signed his first recording contract with QWEST/WB records as a member of Quincy Jones’ boy-band YOUTH ASYLUM. As a theater performer, he has been seen in companies of WICKED, MAMMA MIA, and the original Broadway cast of MARY POPPINS. A social media addict, he has built an online following for his many youtube videos. His full-length stage work AN ASIAN AMERICAN BASKETBALL MUSICAL was an official selection into the ASCAP New Musical Theater Workshop with panelists Stephen Schwartz and Pasek & Paul, and his one man show THE KEVIN YEE SHOW won him a “Fruitee” award for Best Music Performance at the Fresh Fruit Festival in NYC. He shares his story in the IT GETS BETTER book created by Dan Savage. He has contributed to the Museum of Chinese in America (NYC), and has been inducted into the Virtual Museum of Asian Canadian Cultural Heritage for his contribution to visual arts.
Sasquatch, and the Supernatural
Ever wonder how those guys on TV seem to talk to the dead?
What about ESP and psychic surgery? How do street scams
and cons work? Want to know how YOU can trick your friends
into believing you have psychic powers? From fakers talking
to the dead, to identity theft, to homeopathic snake oils,
to psychic hotlines, "Scams, Sasquatch, and the Supernatural"
is going to step-by-step reveal all the tricks and techniques
used by the pros, and expose the shocking hidden stories
behind each scam. If Harvard offered a PhD in deceit, this
would be it. We'll make YOU an expert in America's most
beloved lies. This is no ordinary lecture: we're talking
hands-on experiments, a live performance of psychic surgery,
free giveaways of cash and prizes, and all the secrets TV
psychics DON'T want you to know. It's hosted by magician
Brian Brushwood, so it'll be funny magical, and (of course),
bizarre. Your school is going to tell you that this is a
"lecture." That you'll be "learning."
Don't be scared. You'll be learning how to spot fakes, and
how to avoid getting ripped off.
